Picking a Good Day

Pick a date that will work for the most amount of people as possible. Many experts recommend planning a company picnic for the weekday to ensure that the most employees will be able to attend after all, it is about bonding! If you do plan a weekend event, make sure to avoid holidays like Memorial Day or the Fourth of July, as many people leave town and take trips over the long weekend. But, there are still ways to incorporate holidays into your overall theme. Keep reading for tips!

Themes

A company picnic is reason enough to have a party, but consider choosing a theme to liven things up and make the event feel timely. Depending on when you are throwing your picnic, it might be the perfect time of year to incorporate a theme. Throwing your picnic at the end of April or beginning of May? Consider a Kentucky Derby theme with mint juleps, bowties and hats. Or, consider a Cinco de Mayo party with piatas, fajitas and margaritas. Planning for later in July? Why not throw an Independence Day celebration with red, white and blue decorations and American favorites including hot dogs and hamburgers.

Invitations

Once you have a day, time and possible theme picked out, build your guest list and send out invites. An e-blast, paperless post or printed invitations are all great options. Also, be sure to make it clear whom the invitation extends to. Employees only? Spouses? Children? Give your employees an easy way to RSVP. Its always easiest to plan when you have an accurate idea of numbers.
